讀《魚樂圖》：魚身、柳葉與紙上的水

《魚樂圖》的水在哪裏？先看游魚之間那片沒有着墨的紙。眼睛順着魚尾的方向移動，紙白便有了水域的寬度。再看垂入畫面的柳葉，岸邊的位置也漸漸清楚。
從魚尾看方向
畫中幾尾魚分向而游。魚身墨色較重，尾鰭往外散開，有些邊緣柔軟，有些收得俐落。遮住柳枝來看，游魚依然有方向；把柳枝放回視野，視線便多了一條從上到下的路。
把題字也讀進畫裏
畫左的直行題字和印章，與右上垂下的枝葉分據兩側。若只把字當成說明，容易錯過它們在構圖裏的分量。試着把畫面縮小，先看左右兩邊的墨色重量，再放大細看每一尾魚。
Looking at Fish at Play
Where is the water? Follow the space between the fish. The dark bodies and spreading tails give the untouched paper a direction. The hanging leaves bring a bank into the scene, while the vertical inscription and red seals give the left edge its own weight.
